This course will equip you with some of the knowledge and practical skills required for you to work conveniently with people with dementia and enable you respond to any situation confidently. This course is also aimed at all staff working in the care environment who works with older people with dementia.

The training programme covers the following topics: • Understanding Dementia. • Understanding person-centred Dementia Care. • Understanding challenging behaviour in the context of Dementia. • Applying a person-centred approach to Dementia.     Throughout this course you will learn about a relatively new approach to the support and care for people with dementia-an approach known as 'person-centred care'


Assessment Method

You will complete assessment for each of the four units which will be marked by aqualified tutor. On successful completion of the assessment you will be awarded Certificate in Dementia Awareness.

Aim  ________________________________________ This course is designed for any staff who may come into contact with aggressive or challenging behavior and want to learn diffusion techniques. It is designed to help employees to be able to manage situation safely and reduce stress and anxiety for all involved.   This course also enables you to have an awareness and understanding of the reasons why a person may present challenging behaviour         


Who is this for? ________________________________________ This qualification will also give all employees the ability to contribute to the process and act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others. This qualification can be offered as a course either as general workplace safety, or safety for health and social care.

Aim ________________________________________ This course is aimed at Care Assistants & Support Workers working within the care industry. The focus of this course centres around person facilitates care, in the development and maintenance of individual independence, in addition to direct care delivery to the clients or patients.         

Who is this course for? ________________________________________ The course aims to develop the knowledge and skills for all those who wish to work with Adults in Health and Social Care settings in England. The course is made up of a mixture of mandatory units, specific pathway units and optional units, based on skills or competence or knowledge.         

Content ________________________________________ 

To achieve diploma level 2,  learner need to complete a total of 46 credit value.   Depending on the nature of learner's area of work, learners will choose a relevant pathway which relates to their work. There are three pathways;- Generic,  Dementia or  Learning Disabilities.   There are 9 mandatory units  (24 credits values) :-  

  • Introduction to Communication in Health and Social care settings.
  •  Introduction to Personal Development in Health and Social care settings.  
  • Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health and Social care settings. 
  • Introduction to Duty of Care in Health and Social care settings.
  •  Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social care. 
  • The Role of the Health and Social Care Worker.  
  • Implement Person-Centred approaches in Health and Social care.  
  • Contribute to Health and Safety in Health and Social care. 
  • Handle Information in Health and Social care settings   


Optional Units   

Learners must complete additional 22 credit values (optional units) to achieve the full qualification. The diploma replaces the previous Level 2 NVQ

Assessment is through completing assignments set by your tutor. You will also be assessed practically by observation in the workplace.

All those who are working in a senior role with adults in health and social care environments in England. 

Who is this course for? ________________________________________ This course is designed for candidates who are already a care worker, and you have some responsibility in your workplace. You sometimes work without supervision. You want to increase your skills, perhaps to become a more senior care worker. This diploma can help you succeed in a wide range of healthcare settings such as residential care, community and primary care, hospitals, home care/help, community based care and supporting living projects.

To achieve diploma level 3,  learner need to complete a total of 58 credit value.   Depending on the nature of learner's area of work, learners will choose a relevant pathway which relates to their work. Promote Equality and Inclusion in Health and Social Care settings.   Worker Promote Person-Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care. Principles for implementing Duty of Care in Health and Social Care settings.  Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care.  The role of the Health and Social Care   Promote and Implement Health and Safety in Health and Social Care.    Optional Units   Learners must complete additional 30 credit values (optional units) to achieve the full qualification. Content  ________________________________________ This training programme covers the following topics: • Legal General overview of Mental health problem (Signs and symtom, Nature and causes) and how they affect people • Types of mental illness i.e. depression, bipolar, psychosis. • The importance of social inclusion. • Practical steps to improve your own mental health • What help are avaliable in the community.
